  1. Concept & Research

The project began as an exploration of how Mixed Reality can transform everyday hobbies into engaging skill-building experiences.
Cocktail making, one of the most social and artistic parts of human culture, became the perfect foundation.

The concept: to create a real-world interactive assistant that helps users prepare a Tequila Sunrise cocktail step by step — learning, performing, and enjoying in one seamless flow.

Through quick research and experience mapping, we defined the emotional goal of the app: to make users feel confident, creative, and connected, even on their first attempt.

  1. Design Strategy

I designed the entire experience and user journey. The design prioritized short, engaging sessions (5–10 minutes) for headset comfort and retention.

Using hand tracking and scene understanding, the experience automatically spawns on any real table, blending digital guidance with real tools and ingredients.

The visual direction focused on realism and clarity. A minimal transparent UI projected directly onto the table, guiding each next action without breaking immersion.

  1. Prototype Development

  • Rapid 3D Prototyping — Built the full MR prototype with animation and spatial interactions in just 3 hours using ShapesXR, saving development time and visualizing the entire flow.

  • UX/UI System — Designed gesture logic, progress cues, and feedback loops for seamless learning.

  • Voice & Narrative Design — Created the full voice-over, guidance tone, and pacing for a natural, step-by-step experience.

  • Tools Used: Unity · ShapesXR · Figma · Blender · CapCut · ElevenLabs · GPT

Despite not having a 3D artist, I used ShapesXR’s native models and assets to simulate the full workflow effectively, ensuring clarity for the development team.

  1. Testing & Iteration

The prototype was built and tested within 28 hours at the hackathon.
A real bar setup was used for validation — with an actual table, real tools, and real ingredients.

Users could follow the virtual guide, mix the cocktail step by step, and end the experience with a real, drinkable Tequila Sunrise.

Feedback from participants confirmed the interface’s intuitiveness and the natural feel of hand-tracking interactions.

  1. Launch & Showcase

MixDrink Master was presented live at Meta XR Hackathon Cologne 2024, complete with a fully playable MR demo.

The scene was pre-calibrated for table recognition, with a Quest 3 headset ready for instant interaction.
Judges and participants could experience the process of crafting a real cocktail guided by MR in real-time.

The project won 1st Place in the Hobby & Skill Building Track, recognized by Meta for its innovation in real-world XR learning and exceptional UX design under extreme time pressure.
